On the morning of July 19th, a delegation from the General Department of Taxation (GDT) led by Comrade Mai Xuan Thanh, Party Secretary and General Director of the GDT, visited and offered flowers and incense to pay tribute to the war heroes at the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel National Relic Site, the Flower Drop Dock on the banks of the Thach Han River, the Route 9 National Cemetery, and the Truong Son National Cemetery.
At the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel National Relic Site, the delegation offered flowers and incense at the Central Memorial of the Ancient Citadel. Standing in silence to pay their respects, each member of the delegation was deeply moved by the heroic sacrifices of the war heroes who fell during the 81-day battle to defend the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel in the fiery summer of 1972.
Next, the delegation paid tribute and released flowers into the Thach Han River. Over 40 years ago, tens of thousands of soldiers bravely crossed the river under the hail of bullets to defend the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel. Their blood and bones have mingled with the waters of the Thach Han River, making it a sacred and legendary symbol.
The delegation then offered flowers and incense at the Route 9 National Cemetery. This is the final resting place of 10,500 war heroes who sacrificed their lives during the resistance war against the US. Before the spirits of the war heroes, the GDT leadership and all members of the delegation bowed their heads in tribute and pledged to continue to uphold the spirit of solidarity, focus their intellect and resources, and strive to fulfill the assigned tasks with excellence, contributing to building an increasingly beautiful and developed country.
In the spirit of “Drinking water, remember the source,” “Eating fruit, remember the tree planter,” on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day, Comrade Mai Xuan Thanh, Party Secretary and General Director of the GDT, and the leaders performed the bell-tolling ceremony to commemorate the war heroes at the Truong Son National Cemetery.
The pilgrimage of the GDT delegation is a practical and meaningful activity, demonstrating the deep gratitude of the tax sector for those who have sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the nation. It is also a reminder for tax officials and civil servants to continue to uphold the tradition of “Drinking water, remember the source,” “Eating fruit, remember the tree planter,” and strive to fulfill the assigned tasks well, contributing to building an increasingly beautiful and developed country.
