Logistics: The “Backbone” of E-commerce and the Global Supply Chain

The logistics industry is becoming one of the most dynamic sectors in Vietnam. The explosion of e-commerce, the development of industrial zones, and the demand for goods delivery have created immense business opportunities. However, to operate legally and efficiently, understanding the legal regulations is the first and most crucial step.

This article provides a comprehensive guide to the conditions and procedures required to establish a logistics company in Vietnam.

1. Overview of the Logistics Industry

According to the 2005 Commercial Law, logistics services are commercial activities that include multiple stages, from goods receipt, transport, warehousing, and customs clearance to final delivery. A logistics company can operate in various areas, including:

  • Transportation: Road, sea, rail, or combined multimodal transport.

  • Delivery: Express delivery services for small or urgent orders.

  • Customs Procedures: Representing businesses in carrying out customs clearance procedures for goods.

Depending on resources, a business can start with one or two core areas and gradually expand.
