How To Calculate Unemployment Insurance Benefits In 2025 (Simple And Easy To Understand)
Calculating unemployment benefits is not too complicated. Here is the detailed formula:
Monthly Unemployment Benefit = 60% x Average monthly salary on which unemployment insurance contributions were based for the 06 consecutive months preceding unemployment
Note on the maximum unemployment benefit level:
- For employees receiving salaries under the state-regulated salary system:
Maximum monthly unemployment benefit = 5 x Base salary = 5 x 2.34 million VND = 11.7 million VND/month (applying the current base salary).
- For employees working in ordinary enterprises:
Maximum monthly benefit = 5 x Regional minimum wage Specifically, the maximum benefit level for each region is as follows:
Region 1: 5 x 4.96 million VND = 24.8 million VND/month Region 2: 5 x 4.41 million VND = 22.05 million VND/month Region 3: 5 x 3.86 million VND = 19.3 million VND/month Region 4: 5 x 3.45 million VND = 17.25 million VND/month This regional minimum wage is currently implemented according to the Government’s Decree No. 74/2024/ND-CP, effective from July 1, 2024.
How To Check The Monthly Salary On Which Unemployment Insurance Contributions Were Based
According to Article 58 of the Law on Employment in 2013, the monthly salary on which unemployment insurance contributions are based is the same as the salary used as the basis for compulsory social insurance (BHXH) contributions of the employee.
The maximum monthly salary on which unemployment insurance contributions are based is regulated as follows:
- For employees receiving salaries under the state-regulated salary system:
Highest monthly salary for unemployment insurance contribution = 20 times the base salary
- For employees working in ordinary enterprises:
Highest monthly salary for unemployment insurance contribution = 20 times the regional minimum wage To accurately determine your monthly salary on which unemployment insurance contributions were based, you can check in two ways:
Method 1: View the contribution history on the Vietnam Social Security’s website: https://baohiemxahoi.gov.vn/tracuu/Pages/tra-cuu-dong-bao-hiem.aspx - Method 2: View the contribution information on the VssID application.
How To Determine The Duration Of Unemployment Benefits
The duration of unemployment benefits will depend on the total number of months you have contributed to unemployment insurance:
- Contributed to unemployment insurance for 12 to 36 months: Entitled to 03 months of unemployment benefits.
- Contributed to unemployment insurance for each additional 12 months: Entitled to an additional 01 month of unemployment benefits.
- Maximum duration of unemployment benefits: No more than 12 months.
Important Note: If you have contributed to unemployment insurance for more than 36 months and have remaining months, these remaining months will be reserved to calculate the duration of unemployment benefits for the next time you are eligible.
Example: Mr. A has contributed to unemployment insurance for 50 months. When he loses his job, Mr. A will be entitled to unemployment benefits for 4 months (corresponding to 48 months of contribution), and the remaining 2 months will be reserved.
