Intelligent Tax Management Solutions Boost Vietnam's E-commerce Platforms

On November 22nd, the General Department of Taxation held an online meeting with relevant agencies to discuss tax management for e-commerce activities. At the meeting, representatives discussed and proposed solutions to facilitate compliance for taxpayers, e-commerce platforms, and tax authorities.

Challenges in E-commerce Tax Management

According to Deputy General Director Mai Son, despite efforts to collect information from e-commerce platforms, there are still limitations such as incomplete and inaccurate data, hindering tax management. Moreover, implementing tax withholding and payment on behalf of individual sellers on e-commerce platforms poses additional challenges.

Solutions and Recommendations

To address these challenges, delegates proposed the following solutions:

  • Improve data quality: E-commerce platforms should provide complete, accurate, and timely information about sellers on their platforms, including personal and business information, transactions, and products.
  • Simplify procedures: Tax authorities should simplify procedures and processes for providing information, and offer support tools to facilitate compliance for e-commerce platforms.
  • Build a common database: A common database of e-commerce platforms and sellers should be established to facilitate information sharing and exchange.
  • Strengthen cooperation: Tax authorities and e-commerce platforms should strengthen cooperation, share information, and jointly find optimal solutions.

Recommendations from E-commerce Platforms

E-commerce platforms also made several recommendations, including:

  • Simplify forms: Information request forms should be simplified, easy to understand, and user-friendly.
  • Apply technology: Information technology should be applied to support data entry and transmission.
  • Improve error reporting mechanisms: Clear and timely error reporting mechanisms should be in place to allow e-commerce platforms to correct errors during information provision.

Conclusion

The meeting provided a forum for all parties to exchange information, share experiences, and find solutions to the challenges posed. The General Department of Taxation has committed to continuing to support e-commerce platforms in complying with the law while facilitating the business activities of enterprises.
