Vietnam and Singapore Strengthen Tax Administration Cooperation

Director General Mai Xuan Thanh led the delegation to Singapore. The two sides had an effective working session, focusing on issues such as organizational models, staff training, and solutions to improve management efficiency tax management.
 

Hanoi, August 5, 2023 – With the aim of fostering cooperation and knowledge exchange, the General Director of the Vietnam General Department of Taxation, Mr. Mai Xuan Thanh, led a delegation to Singapore for a working visit with the Singapore Inland Revenue Authority. The successful meeting marks a new milestone in the cooperative relationship between the two tax authorities.

During the meeting, both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on a wide range of critical issues, including:

  • Organizational structure and management: Both parties shared their experiences in developing and operating efficient organizational models tailored to the unique circumstances of each country.
  • Cadre training and development: Enhancing the capacity of officials and civil servants was a particular focus. Training and development programs will be strengthened to meet the increasing demands of tax administration.
  • Information technology: The application of information technology in tax administration was identified as a focal point for cooperation. Both countries will collaborate on research and share experiences in modern technological solutions to improve efficiency and facilitate taxpayer services.
  • International cooperation: Both sides will work closely together to participate in tax treaties and international organizations, ensuring taxpayer interests and contributing to the economic development of both nations.

Director General Mai Xuan Thanh emphasized the importance of the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Singapore, particularly in the tax sector. He noted that the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement has facilitated investment and trade between the two countries. However, he also acknowledged that the increasing challenges posed by economic globalization necessitate continuous innovation and enhanced competitiveness for Vietnam’s tax administration.

Singapore’s Tax Authority Director General, Ng Wai Choong, welcomed the Vietnamese delegation and expressed confidence in the growing cooperation between the two countries. He pledged to provide all necessary support to facilitate further exchange and collaboration.

Conclusion: The meeting between the Vietnamese and Singaporean tax authorities yielded positive results and opened up new avenues for future cooperation. By sharing experiences and learning from each other, both countries can enhance their tax administration, create a favorable business environment, and attract investment.
